Background: A major step to integration is obtaining employment.  With that being said, English Language Skills are one of the first hurdles to getting a job – they include: filling out an application (see sample Tab – A, sample job application), participating in a job interview (see Tab B- Job vocabulary, and Tab C- sample interview questions), and understanding the work culture in the United States (see Tab D – Lutheran Family Services Job training class). Resettlement agencies do a good job in introducing you to the process, but native English-speaking volunteers will provide the English practice you need to get a job. Some job seeking steps: Step 1: Make a resume, Step 2: Search and apply for jobs, Step 3: Practice for your interviews, Step 4: Go to interviews, Step 5: Accept a job offer, Step 6: Complete paperwork from your new employer, Step 7: Start training.

Warning: Do not buy a Social Security Number (SSN).  While available, these SSNs are illegal.  A person convicted under 42 U.S.C. 408 (a) (7) (B) for False Representation of a Social Security Number is subject to a maximum prison sentence of 5 years. In addition, a Defendant should be aware that any plea to False Representation of a Social Security Number will subject the Defendant to removal from the United States in immigration court = DEPORTATION.

Age Summary of Requirements

14-15 Must have school release permit to work during school hours. May not work more than 40 hours per

18-20 18 year olds are not minors and are not subject to Colorado youth laws.

21 Able to serve alcohol for consumption (example-restaurants). No restrictions.
